Menu Plan Monday Jan 12/15

IMG_3759_fotor

Last week’s menu plan included quiche, which was a huge hit with all parties.  It was even better the second day!  This week’s meals are a little less inspired because we have a number of things on our calendar this week. In winter we appreciate even a simple meal at home when it is cold and dark out.

Monday – Shrimp and twice-baked potatoes, broccoli

Tuesday – Brats and beans, salad

Wednesday – Sweet and sour chicken, broccoli

Thursday – Pizza and salad

Friday – We have a free take-out meal coupon.  Night off!

Meal planning is such a huge help, I find we eliminate most of the waste in our house just by doing this and we eat more of a variety. I’m always amazed at people who say “I don’t have time”. I think it saves time, saves frustration from not knowing what to cook and it definitely saves money! I can’t imagine not doing it. Right now I’m working on “things we haven’t eaten in a while”.

I am with you on that! A menu plan saves so much money compared to roaming the grocery store for inspiration. Also, by the time my daughter and I are out of school she has homework and going to the store would cut into the precious after school time.
There are many habits I haven’t maintained, but meal planning I am successful with 😄

I regularly menu plan too. I’ve found that having a menu skeleton, e.g.. Monday – pasta, Tuesday – beef, Wednesday – kids pick, Thursday – Pork, Friday – Pizza/easy meal, Saturday – chicken, Sunday – Big meal – has really helped me . How do you go about your planning?

Thanks for your comment Canadian Mama!
I often start my plan with what I have on hand. Do I have a lot of eggs? Are the tortillas going to expire soon? What is going on after School? Then after that I get creative. Usually 1-2 meals are “favorites” or special efforts, and then others are more routine.
I don’t plan on weekends usually because DH likes to be unscheduled since our weekdays are very scheduled.

Some day I will figure out the economics of cooking for two…..instead of 8 to 10. :/ You’d think I would have that down pat since our last child left home in 1998! So I don’t fight it anymore. Whatever is left over gets put in the freezer for me when I’m home alone and not eating as I should be. Your menu planning is giving me some great ideas and I thank you for that.
